If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably seen me make this basically everyday on my story. Seriously, I eat it everyday. Sometimes twice a day if I am feeling crazy. And yes, even in the winter when it is 10F here in Indianapolis I eat it. I can go for a training ride outside, be freezing, and still crave this Anabolic Protein Ice Cream. It is seriously that good!
Anabolic Protein Ice Cream
I am sure you have all seen this become crazy popular for the Doctor himself, Greg Doucette. I have been making super thick protein smoothies for a few years now, but I would be lying if I said I didn’t take a few tips and tricks from Greg. The main one being using a TON of frozen fruit.
First tip for ANABOLIC PROTEIN ICE CREAM: Lots of frozen fruit!
Yes, I put nearly 400g of frozen strawberries. It ranges from 300-400 depending on the day. This is absolutely KEY to make the ice cream creamy, and as thick as you will see below. Of course ice also adds some thickness, but then it makes it icy and less creamy and protein ice cream is all about the creaminess.
You NEED Macro1 ONE Protein to make this anabolic ice cream super thick and creamy!
Another super important thing that I have noticed as the protein ice cream has improved is using a whey + casein blend protein powder. Yes, you can make it with whey protein alone but it will NOT be nearly as thick and creamy. The casein is what makes it creamy and thick.
The ice cream has been the thickest and creamiest it has even been when using my new ONE Protein. In this one I used the vanilla ice cream🍦 flavor but sometimes I also do the chocolate brownie flavor for a chocolate strawberry protein ice cream.
Xantham gum / thickeners? Nope!
The next note I want to mention is the debate on using a Xantham / Guar gum or not. Personally, I used to use it until I noticed it really upsetting my stomach. It makes me bloated, fart, and really just doesn’t sit well. I stopped using it because with ONE Protein, the casein helps thicken the ice cream and you don’t need Xantham gum which upsets many peoples stomachs.
I also get a lot of questions which blender I use.
Personally I use a Vitamix. It was actually a over 20 year old Vitamix from parents that I just got upgraded this past Christmas. I am not in any way affiliated with them, but I am amazed at how reliable it is. I also know the DOCTOR himself is against Vitamix and uses a blender, but remember, “THERE ARE NO RULES”.

Ok, ONE LAST THING! I am serious. Please do NOT use pure whey protein in this recipe. It MUST be a whey + casein blend protein.
Obviously I am partial to my Macro1 ONE Protein, which in my opinion is the absolute best protein for anabolic protein ice cream.
The casein in it gives the ice cream a perfect thick and smooth consistency that you won’t get with any other protein!
