I think I have decided that German Chocolate Cake (Germanchökolätekäke) might be my new favorite cake. Of course, if it’s going to be my favorite it’s gotta have chocolate. And when you add coconut into the mix too, it’s a no brainer. So, it was about time I make a German chocolate protein mug cake.
BSN sent me a few tubs of their new Cold Stone Ice Cream inspired flavors. I got the GERMANCHÖKOLÄTEKÄKE, Birthday Cake Remix, and Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip. There will be some exciting recipes coming with those other flavors next, but first the GERMANCHÖKOLÄTEKÄKE. It’s amazing.
I really was quite surprised at how much German chocolate cake flavor it had. I used the protein, along with some whole wheat flour and a few other ingredients similar to most of my protein mug cake recipes. Then came the fun part. Adding all the toppings!
On top I used some coconut natural peanut butter, vanilla coconut butter, chocolate coconut butter, and of course some chocolate chips. You really can never have too much chocolate. Seriously. NEVER TOO MUCH CHOCOLATE. :)
- Cake
- 1 scoop BSN GERMANCHÖKOLÄTEKÄKE protein powder
- 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (or oat flour)
- 1 whole egg
- 1/3 cup milk (I used unsweetened almond)
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tbsp. shredded coconut
- pinch of salt, optional
- Toppings
- 1/2 tbsp. chocolate coconut butter
- 1/2 tbsp. vanilla coconut butter
- 1/2 tbsp. coconut peanut butter
- chocolate chips
- shredded coconut
- Add dry ingredients to a bowl (protein powder, flour, baking powder, salt) and mix. Add egg and milk. Gently stir again until combined and a smooth batter forms.
- Spray a bowl or large mug with nonstick spray. Pour batter into bowl.
- Microwave for 1 minute, check, then another 30 seconds. May need more or less time depending on your microwave, so be careful not to overcook, or it will dry out.
- Once cooked, top with all of the above toppings, or any of your own favorites. Enjoy!
